Claybird Shooting

Waiuku College clay bird shooting team formed in 2002, and since then we have been a very successful and trophy winning team.

Coach’s and Practice’s

We are very lucky to have the services of Mr Les Clarke and Mr Bob Anderson, both NZ Representatives in clay bird shooting. We also have a wonderful Manager in Mrs Jo Sands. The team practices every week sometimes twice a week as we approach a school shoot. Practices are during the week at the home of Mr and Mrs Jo and Kevin Sands at Aka Aka, for approx. 90mins each night.

Competition.

We have eight months of shooting with one shoot per month. In October we also attend the nationals, this is a three- day event. A calendar of dates of shoots will be sent out at the beginning of the year.

COSTS

Claybird shooting is an expensive sport.

$25.00 which includes college registration fee and a shooting vest.

Practice Costs:  approx. $35- $40 per session.

Monthly shoots: Entry fees for each shoot are approx. $35 plus ammo used on that day. Each shooter is expected to keep a credit balance which can be given to Mrs Sands, this is usually $200.  This helps cover the costs of clay targets and ammunition. If you do not own a gun then Les Clarke, our coach will happily advise how to source.

Waiuku College clay bird shooting team shirts are available for purchase from Mrs Sands, cost approx. $50.00

All students must provide black tracksuit pants and the Waiuku College jacket.

Club membership

In order to shoot you will heed to join your shooter to the NZCTA as well as your local club, Auckland Metro Gun club, based in Pukekohe. You will be issued with a handicap book that will record all your shooting results.  Mrs. Jo Sands can help you with all these details.
